Enough chatting, skirmishing and «positive» thoughts gathered with comments from our fellow citizens the post of our compatriot and resident of Chora Statu Haru's, in which it expressed its concerns to the Mayor of Kythera, for the situation in his neighbourhood Belvedere in early July 2023.
More specifically, Mr. Haros wrote: «July 2023. Those tourists walking in the Chora who by chance reach Belvedere can, among cars , motorbikes and empty abandoned pots, sit on the benches and enjoy the view. Eustratios Harhalakis the end result frankly does not do you justice. It does not do justice to the redevelopment, the expense and all the effort you put in. An evening stroll around Chora will convince you.»
We followed with particular interest the comments of the post, some of which were somewhat «rough» and others more restrained. Because we noticed the willingness of several people to add positive thinking and energy, we also quote you our view in the same direction, in the hope that we will help for everyone to think about the big picture.
Solutions for the Belvedere
With a short observation of the urban plan of the region and always in accordance with the legislation in force we have to do the following comments - suggestions:
- The famous redevelopment of the Belvedere was completed two years ago, with some problems in its technical part, which were repaired by the contractor. The picture has improved considerably and that's positive. Problems arise in the issue of parking of vehicles, in free access for people with visual impairments using the provided route guide, and in the maintenance of the green areas provided.
- Η redevelopment study even though it was written many years ago, and even though not updated in accordance with modern needs, seems to have been implemented without providing relief on the issue of Parking of the region.
- Nevertheless, the current situation is reversible and does not rule out improvements, as can be seen from citizens' comments. When there is collegiality and dialogue, the results can be better.
- We stand on the issue of parking/parking of vehicles: The Municipality of Kythera can with one supplementary study in the region to proceed to the extensions which we show on the layout plan and aerial photograph. More than 20 parking and staging areas can be created on the interchanges, with priority for use by local residents. This may also facilitate the permanent pedestrianisation of the Country Road by removing the descent and changing the direction of travel on the Belvedere Road section.
In any case, by making use of all the data and listening to the needs of citizens and the local economy we can find the necessary solutions. Because solutions exist when the vision.
