And while the insulting statements of shipowner Panos Laskaridis about the Prime Minister and the regulatory authorities remain unanswered by the government, the publishing group of Vangelis Marinakis, with an unsigned article in the newspaper “Ta NEA” (and IN.GR) refers to «insults and improprieties», reacting to the statements «which not only expose the shipowner Panos Laskaridis himself, but also harm Greek shipowners», and calling on the Union of Greek Shipowners to take a stand. Read the article:
Insults and improprieties
These are statements that not only expose the shipowner Panos Laskaridis himself, but also hurt Greek shipowners as individuals and the overall image of the Union of Greek Shipowners, which he represents as a member of its Board of Directors.
The statements made by the shipowner Panos Laskaridis about the Greek government and the Prime Minister in the context of a journalistic investigation by the European Investigative Collaboration (EIC) are at the very least inappropriate and offensive. These statements not only expose him, but also damage Greek shipowners as individuals and the overall image of the Union of Greek Shipowners, which he represents as a member of its Board of Directors.
What did P. Laskaridis say, among other things? That «shipowners do not need the government, the ministry, the IMO (International Maritime Organisation) and the Prime Minister» adding that «they can shit on the Prime Minister, for them he is of no use. Why? Because shipping has nothing to do with Greece. There is nothing a shipowner can gain in Greece. There are no cargoes, there are no shipping contracts, nothing in Greece.’.
To this unprecedented rant of P. Laskaridis there can be no response. The Union of Greek Shipowners must immediately take a stand and impose measures. It is not possible, with such statements, to vilify Greek shipowners and an entire sector with a significant contribution to the Greek economy and not to have a strong reaction. Even if it is necessary to expel Mr Laskaridis from the Board of Directors of the Union of Greek Shipowners.
