Marilyn Monroe, portrayed by Ana de Armas in the new Netflix biopic, makes a surprising confession in the new trailer for «Blonde,» makes a surprising confession: As she says, the iconic actress «doesn't exist.».
The trailer, which was released on Thursday, shows De Armas as Monroe at various stages of the sex symbol’s life, both as a celebrity and as Norma Jeane Baker.
«I’ve played Marilyn Monroe, Marilyn Monroe, Marilyn Monroe,» de Armas says in the footage. «I can’t do another scene with Marilyn Monroe.».
At one point, she admits that a part of her exists only in front of the camera.
«Marilyn doesn’t exist,» says de Armas. «When I step out of my dressing room, I’m Norma Jeane. I’m still here when the camera starts rolling. Marilyn Monroe exists only on screen.».
The two-minute trailer also features actors Bobby Cannavale and Adrien Brody in the roles of Marilyn’s ex-husbands, Joe DiMaggio and playwright Arthur Miller.
De Armas had told Netflix Queue, the platform’s promotional website, that in her opinion the upcoming film is «the boldest, most unapologetic, and most feminist take on [Monroe’s] story that I’ve ever seen.».
«Blonde» will premiere at the Venice Film Festival in early September and will be available on Netflix on September 23.
