After decades of requests from residents and friends of the island, the Potamos Local Council unanimously decided to implement a pilot pedestrianization of the village center for one month. The measure will be in effect every Friday from 8:00 p.m. to 1:00 a.m. and every Sunday from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Read the statement by Panagiotis Alevizopoulos, President of the Municipal Community:
Dear people of Kythira, residents and friends of our island,
After decades of requests from a large number of our fellow citizens, we are launching a pilot program this year to pedestrianize the center of Potamos for one month, every Friday from 8:00 p.m. to 1:00 a.m. and every Sunday from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
This decision was made unanimously by the Potamos Local Council. In cooperation with the village’s Cultural Association, and for everyone’s convenience, a private parking area has been set up outside the town center, with clearly visible signage for easy access.
We would like to remind you that, since early 2024, the Community’s General Assembly has submitted a proposal to the Municipality of Kythira to build a road connecting the interior parking lot with the road leading to the G. However, the project’s implementation depends on the Municipality’s willingness, as the communities have no funds.
We ask for your understanding and cooperation to ensure the smooth implementation of this measure, as well as your comments and suggestions. By the end of the summer, we will collect all the data so that we can design even more effective measures in the future.
A thank-you letter will follow for everyone who contributed
With respect
Takis Alevisopoulos
Proerdos, Potamos Municipal District.

The wheelchair-accessible section is behind the Lariotissa. As a person with a disability, how am I supposed to get there?;
First, access to parking spaces, and then the pedestrian zones. Isn't there any common sense?;
