The Mayor of Athens Harris Doukas and the Governor of Attica Nikos Hardalias had a working meeting this morning at the Athens City Hall, in the context of the close cooperation between the Municipality and the Region for the promotion of important projects and interventions in the capital.
During the meeting they discussed infrastructure projects currently underway in Athens, the priorities for the next period, as well as issues related to the use of financial instruments, such as Integrated Spatial Investments and the possibilities of the new NSRF. Particular emphasis was placed on better coordination between the two levels of government, with the aim of speeding up procedures and implementing projects with a tangible impact on the city's neighbourhoods.
Responding to a long-standing request of the Municipality of Athens, the Attica Regional Governor signed the inclusion of the project for the construction of a new building for the 64th kindergarten of Athens, aiming to strengthen the school infrastructure in an area with increased social needs.
The Governor of Attica, Nikos Chardalias, said: «With the Mayor of Athens, we have a very good cooperation. We finalized a number of issues concerning the maturation of some projects and the issues concerning the timetables that accompany these projects. It is not only valuable to plan, it is valuable to proceed step by step, so that at the end of our term of office the people can see tangible results in the neighbourhood. But we do not only work together on these issues, we have a common concern for the future of local government. We are also working together on issues related to the Charter of Local Government, a very specific initiative - a breakthrough of the Ministry of Interior - which must find the Municipalities and the Region of Attica ready.
The Mayor of Athens, Harris Dukas, said: «We had an excellent and substantial meeting with the Governor of Attica. We put on the table all the projects underway and the next priorities for the city. Nikos Chardalias has many municipalities and many areas under his responsibility, but I must say that he puts the proper emphasis on the capital - and once again I thank him for this. We are starting important projects in critical areas, and of particular importance is the inclusion of the new kindergarten in a neighbourhood that really needs it. Our cooperation with the Region is close and daily, with the common goal of accelerating projects that improve the daily lives of citizens and make Athens more resilient and functional. It is crucial that we move forward with even greater speed. With Nikos Chardalias, we are also together in Brussels, in the common struggles we are making, the Municipalities and the Regions, as one, so that we can have a role, a voice and a voice and do what the people voted for: projects in the neighborhoods. The relationship between Municipalities and Regions is in no way competitive, it is cooperative and that is why we are making a joint effort.’.
The two sides agreed to continue their close cooperation to promote important projects and initiatives that will contribute to the upgrading of infrastructure, the strengthening of the city's resilience and the improvement of the daily life of Athens' residents.
