It was with anger and deep sadness that I saw the vandalism suffered by the Holy Church of Panagia Orphani. This act is not just an irresponsible action, it is a blatant insult to the faith, history, tradition and cultural identity of Kythera.
It is unthinkable that foreign elements should come to our country, not show the slightest respect, desecrate sacred and historical monuments and then acquire a legal character, as if they could determine the fate and future of this place.
Kytherians will not tolerate such acts of disrespect. Our cultural heritage and our sacred sites are neither a canvas for slogans nor a field for defusing foreign ideological conflicts.
I call on the competent authorities to proceed immediately to the restoration of the Church and to search for those responsible for this sacrilege.
