According to the Fire Department, the fire has been contained after the intervention of three helicopters and nine aircraft, but the firefighting forces are still dealing with many hot spots, while strong winds are blowing in the area, reaching speeds of up to 9 Beaufort.9 Beaufort.

There are 67 firefighters on standby with two forest firefighting teams, 22 vehicles, and volunteers.

The fire passed under Kypriotianika and is descending the Tsakonas gorge, threatening the settlements of Mitata and Viaradika. Access to the front line is extremely difficult—the terrain in the area is steep and wooded, and ground forces cannot easily and safely approach it.

Kythira SOS!!! In a telephone conversation I just had with the Minister of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection, Mr. Yiannis Kefalogiannis, to draw his attention to the absolute and urgent need to immediately dispatch aerial firefighting resources to «reignited» fires/new arson attacks on Kythira, he assured me—and I thank him for that—that four Bell helicopters would be made available for firefighting with continuous drops and six airtractors with retardant material. Unfortunately, the weather does not allow Canadair flights.
I also asked the Minister to install a drone station to monitor areas that are repeatedly targeted by arsonists. The island is clearly being targeted by arsonists, but we will not allow them to destroy this island of happiness, resilience, and autonomy!
