In a letter to the Mayor of Kythera, Mr. Panagiotis Vardas, the parents of the Primary School of Chora and Karvounada express their strong concern about the lack of teachers in the 4th and 5th grades of the school. The problem, which has arisen since the beginning of the school year, creates serious gaps in the education of students and puts a strain on the teaching work of other teachers.
In the letter, which is also communicated to the Deputy Mayor of Education of Kythera, the heads of the municipal factions «All Together Kythera - Antikythera» and «Free Kythera», as well as the local media, the parents characterize the situation as «unacceptable» and ask for immediate measures to solve the problem.
Parents point out that the lack of teachers degrades the quality of teaching and leaves children without adequate educational guidance. The problem has created knowledge gaps for students, while placing a burden on other teachers, who are required to fill the gap with extra workload.
Demands and proposed solutions
The PTA asks the Municipality of Kythera to take the following actions immediately:
•Lobbying the competent authorities for the immediate filling of teaching vacancies.
•Exploring the possibility of placing substitute teachers on a temporary basis.
•Strengthening existing educational structures to limit the impact of the teacher shortage.
Responses expected from the Municipality
The parents ask the municipal authority to give priority to the issue and inform them of the actions it intends to take. They point out that education is a cornerstone of society and cannot be treated with indifference or delay.
The letter is signed by the President of the Association, Mr.Panagiotis Vardas, and highlights the need for immediate intervention to ensure the smooth operation of the school and the educational progress of the students.
