The Municipal Party «All Together - Kythera - Antikythera» requests the immediate convening of the Kythera Municipal Council, following the decision of the shipping company TZAMPO JET N.E. proceed to an early immobilisation of the ship AQUA JEWEL. The company, despite its initial commitments for immobilisation after the March 10, 2025, has decided to suspend its services from 4 February, causing serious problems for the local community.
This development has created great concern and upset, as the ferry connection of Kythera and Antikythera with the mainland is vital, especially during the winter months. The local community faces serious difficulties in getting around, while the economic activity of the island is directly affected.
In a letter to the President of the City Council, κ. Konstantinos Kapsalis, the head of the faction, Zacharias Souris, stresses the need for immediate discussion of the issue in order to take decisions to find a solution.
The letter underlines that in 2025, islanders cannot continue to struggle for the obvious. Reliable ferry connections are a fundamental right and immediate action is required from the relevant bodies.
