In a statement on the International Day of Older Persons, Councillor and leader of the minor opposition Anargyros Sophios stresses the importance of respect and care for the elderly, recognising their contribution to social progress and well-being. Read:
«Every 1st of October is considered World Day of Older Persons. Regardless of the symbolism of this day, all socially developed societies pay tribute to these elderly people. In my opinion, there are two main reasons for this:
1) In all societies every good thing that has happened and every comfort of everyday life is due to this Third Age of today.
2. in connection with the first, these people, those who have taken care of today, must not be forgotten.
On 5/29/2024 at the City Council I made a motion. Based on the above and believing in the social welfare programming that would help Kythera so much if it existed, I firmly believe that if there is no immediate solution for public internal transport, an indirect solution would be this proposal, which concerns the elderly, financially and physically disabled.
If we can achieve this, which clearly requires will and organisation, it will radically change the living standards of our society.
As I have often said, «growth comes through society», so social benefits are a key pillar of development policy.
One reason I like to read literature and philosophy and various authors is because I note quotes that remind us of their use in our everyday life. So today I will use the quote by the French novelist (mostly) Victor Hugo.
«A child's sorrow interests his mother, a young man's sorrow interests a young woman, an old man's sorrow interests no one.»
So we ought to change it.
See my proposal - and of course if you agree or disagree you can tell me.
Good month !!!!!»
