The Nordland Shipwreck in Kythera (video)

How an accident turned into an underwater paradise

The wreck of the Russian cargo ship “Nordland” is found half-submerged off the beach of Diakofti in Kythera. On 29 August 2000, the ship ran aground when the crew was found to be intoxicated. The ship has its stern sunk to a depth of 30 metres, while the bow remains visible above the sea surface. The wreck has become a popular tourist attraction and a destination for divers from Greece and abroad who visit the area to explore.
