The 38-year-old coach is headed to prison after his lengthy defense regarding rape of a minor female sailor.
Four hours after the defendant made his statement, the investigating judge and the prosecutor ruled that the 38-year-old must be remanded in custody in connection with the case reported today by the 20-year-old victim.
According to reports, the 38-year-old, who also submitted his position in writing, reiterated before the judge what he had claimed in his public statements, insisting that he denies the rape and stating that he had a romantic relationship with the minor, not when she was 11 years old but later, while emphasizing that «There was a consensus» for what was done to the minor.
The 38-year-old reportedly said in his defense that he still loves the athlete:
«I still love her. I know I’ll be punished; I have to be punished for what happened. She just needs to be patient; when I get out of prison, I’ll marry her,» he reportedly said. While accepting the criminal punishment he would face at the end of the trial, he is said to have added: «Send me to prison, but know that when we were in a relationship, she wasn’t 11 years old. She had turned 13.».
