In a press release the opposition factions «ALL TOGETHER, KYTHIRA - ANTIKYTHIRA» and «FREE KYTHIRA» are directed against the Mayor of Kythera Efstratios Harhalakis and the members of the majority who abstained from yesterday's meeting on the issue of water. The following is the bulletin:
Kythera, Thursday 08 August 2024
«ALL TOGETHER, KYTHERA - ANTI-KYTHERA»
«FREE CYPRIOTS»
- «On the run» put today the municipal majority with «flag bearer» the Mayor k.Harhalakis. He did not participate in the extraordinary meeting that the City Council would discuss specific proposals of the two factions of the opposition to address the problem of water scarcity.
-Mr.Harhalakis chose flight. Instead of apologizing to the people of Kythira for who is to blame for the situation with the water supply (after 10 years of his mayoralty), instead of accepting to discuss the proposals of the opposition, instead of committing to specific actions, he made sure that there was no quorum in the Board and canceled the meeting. Present from the municipal majority was only the chairman of the Board, Mr. Kapsalis, who was trying to justify the unjustified undemocratic diversion of the Mayor who refuses in practice to implement legal rights of the municipal opposition.
-K.Harchalakis is accountable to the people of Kythiraikos suffering from the lack of adequate water supply. The huge interest of the Kytherians was demonstrated by the presence in the Board meeting room of dozens of our compatriots. The absence of the majority councillors makes them co-responsible for the Mayor's incompetence, co-responsible for the suffering of the citizens, co-responsible for the discrediting of our islands.
- The main person in charge of the problem is railing against the opposition for proposals at a time when he does not wish to hear them. Water supply interruptions will continue, the balance of terror over water sufficiency will continue, the future is grey...
The opposition parties declare that we will not allow anyone to play with the future of the country. History will be written by those present, not by the permanently absent, not by the permanently silent councillors, not by the incompetent Mayor.
