The archive of the Subhistory Office remains in Kythera, as the Municipal Authority states in a press release. Read below:
On 12-01-2024 the decision was taken to abolish the Land Registry Offices of Kythera, Spetses, Hydra, Aegina and Poros and the transfer of all their records and responsibilities to the Central Land Registry Office of Piraeus, in order for the archive to be digitised in its entirety and be directly accessible to citizens electronically. The records of each local Land Registry will no longer be updated for any new registrations or changes, as this process will be done exclusively through the Land Registry Offices, which will issue the relevant certificates both physically and digitally.
After the cooperation of our Municipality with the Mrs Akrivi Stelliou, the land registrar of Kythera and following our formal request to the Ministry of Digital Governance, the Mayor of Kythera had cooperation with the competent Minister Mr. Dimitris Papastergiou, the Deputy Minister Mr. Konstantinos Kyranakis and the President of the Land Registry Mr. Stylianos Sakaretsios, from whom he received the official written assurance that the Ministry of Digital Governance is immediately promoting the enactment of a regulation under which municipalities that wish to do so can receive digitized records of former land registries, taking over their safekeeping, the access of those persons who have the right to search them, and the provision of copies through their employees, in cooperation with the Hellenic Cadastre, with consideration of the possibility of their assignment to local services of the General Archives of the State.
This means that the valuable (for historical and social reasons) archive of the Kythera Land Registry will return permanently to our island after its digitization and will be stored in a building provided by our Municipality, satisfying a reasonable and fair request of the local community.
The Municipal Authority would like to thank the political leadership of the Ministry of Digital Governance and the President of the Land Registry for their positive response to our request.
