Thank you from the survivors and families of the victims of the shipwreck of October 5, 2022 in Diakofti:
«The survivors and the families of the dead and missing who returned to the scene of the shipwreck to thank the people who, risking their own safety, joined forces and finally managed to save 80 people from death.
The people did what should normally be self-evident - and for them it was indeed self-evident. And they became the protagonists in the struggle to save people, but also witnesses to despair and drowning.
To the dead and missing we will try to give face and voice again. We will remember them, talk about them and be close to them. We will never forget them! - Sempre Viva!
So we want to invite all those who lived through that stormy night, as well as the days that followed, and would like to meet and remember with us.
Today Thursday, October 5, 2023 at 16:30 we will meet at Diakofti on the beach, right of the bridge.
About a hundred passengers were on board the ship that crashed into the rocks off Diakofti, pushed by the wild waves. They were trying to reach Europe by crossing its militarised borders and ended up either drowning or were lucky enough to survive thanks to the people who rescued them. They had left their homes in search of a safe life, free of war and persecution, a life of rights and dignity.
