Sydney jeweller and businessman Paul Drakakis from Sydney has passed away

Businessman and jewellery shop owner Paul Drakakis has passed away at the age of 83.

Paul Drakakis, known for his jewelry stores in Manly, Warringah Mall and Mosman, died at his home in Seaforth.

Some Drakakis jewellers closed last Monday as a mark of respect for the man who emigrated to Australia at the age of 17 from the island of Kythera in 1957.

The Drakakis family said on Facebook:

Paul Drakakis also served in life as a councillor on Manly Council from 1983 to 1987, was a member of the local branch of the Liberal Party and a close supporter and friend of former Prime Minister Tony Abbott.

Drakakis and his wife Eleni had four children, Nikos, Petros, Theodoros and Fotini, while he was happy to see nine grandchildren in his life.
