The auditors of the Independent Authority for Public Revenue put a stop to mammoth tax evasion amounting to 1 million euros from a short-term rental platform in Mykonos
A company that manages luxury properties on short term lease has been caught in the clamp of the Hellenic Revenue Service. Through sweeping cross-checks and audits, the Independent Authority identified a website with the characteristics of a sharing platform, with tax evasion amounting to €1 million.
Tax evasion party
* Almost 200 luxury residences in Mykonos were advertised and rented through the website, without documents and without being declared to the tax authorities
* Many additional services were offered, such as the provision of servants, parties, dinners, luxury car and yacht rentals
* Tax evasion exceeds €5,000 per property
How they were caught in the “trap”
Through extensive cross-checks, the Independent Authority's auditors found that the accommodation postings did not mention the Property Registration Number. The total fines amount to €1 million.
Investigations continue as there are a number of targeted cases in progress.
