«Since last night, all of Greece mourns the sudden loss of Noti Mavroudis, a leading composer and classical guitar soloist», notes SYRIZA PS, in its condolence statement, stressing that «Noti Mavroudis was one of the most important artistic figures in our country in the last 60 years».
SYRIZA notes that Notis Mavroudis «sealed the Greek song with his more than 200 compositions, while he became internationally known with the dozens of recitals he gave around the world. He collaborated with the greatest Greek poets and lyricists, such as Odysseas Elytis, Akos Daskalopoulos and Elias Katsoulis, while he also set poetry by Manos Hadjidakis and Yannis Kakoulidis. He has been awarded prizes for his work at international festivals and has also taught classical guitar at the Scuola Ciciva di Milano and the National Conservatory of Athens. He was also awarded the Heitor Villa-Lobos Prize by the Brazilian Embassy for the dissemination of the work of the great Brazilian musician‘.
He adds that «as a citizen he was constantly concerned about political developments with frequent intervention in the public debate, either through his regular articles in various newspapers or via the internet».
SYRIZA also states that the songs of Notis Mavroudis «with his unique and familiar sensitivity, as well as his performances on the classical guitar constitute an important legacy for modern Greek culture».
