Retro Stories: Which World Cup? There's nothing like Kythira – Neapolis!

In July 2001, students from Kythera travelled to Neapolis for a great friendly match. TTV Kythira presents a report from that football match.

The links between Kythera and the opposite coast of Neapolis are well known. Historical, folklore and cultural ties. And not only. The two-way relationship includes football. The friendly matches and the occasional competitions in which both sides participate have left an indelible mark on the memory of those who have experienced them.

In this context, on 1 July 2001, students from primary and secondary schools of Kythera travelled with the “Isle of Kythera” to Neapolis for the rematch of the friendly match that had taken place a few days before on the island.

Through the lens of TTV Kythira, Kythera.News remembers that race, which may not have had a moody glaze, but it was a glorious field of glory for local talent to shine on the “dry” Neapolis.

See extensive footage of the jump journey, the race, interviews with the protagonists, and the return to Chirigo.
