Two new proposals with a total budget 4.617.654,90€ for the upgrading of water supply infrastructure in Kythera and Antikythera, submitted by the Municipality of Kythera to a Call of the Ministry of Environment and Energy funded by the Recovery and Resilience Fund «Greece 2.0».
The first proposal concerns Kythera and includes the replacement of old and drilling of new boreholes that serve the needs of continuous smooth water supply of our island, in the areas of Koumelia, Moschato, Gπεδο, Plakouta and Psoma of the Municipality of Potamos, Diakopoulianika and Petrouni of the Municipality of Karavas, Kakavos of the Municipality of Mitata, Milapidea of the Municipality of Livadi and Kalamos and Xeroniamata of the Municipality of Kythera.
The same proposal also includes integration of the existing system of telemetry and automatic control of water supply infrastructure in the Kythera district. Control Stations will be installed in infrastructures not included in the previous projects as well as additional Pressure Management Stations, Quality and Pressure Measurement Stations at points where a need has been identified during the operation of the existing system.
The second proposal concerns the Antikythera and has as its object the implementation of a telemetry and automatic control system for water supply infrastructure, which will allow the safe supervision of the critical operating parameters of the water supply system (quality characteristics, flows, levels, pressures, consumptions, etc.), the collection and storage of the relevant data (digital water meters) and the remote control of the active elements of the water supply system. In addition, provision is made for 2 water supply wells in Antikythera, at the Kamarella and White Pit locations.
At this point we must point out that after the completion of the previous telemetry, remote control and digital water meters projects, which were completed in 2021, the percentage of non-invoiced water in the Kythera district from 2016 until today has been reduced by 32% on average, while a significant reduction is also observed in water losses from leakages, which has resulted in better management of the island's water resources, which was especially evident during this summer, when despite the huge number of visitors, water supply problems were minimal compared to previous years.
The proposed projects, if funded, in conjunction with other water supply projects currently underway, such as desalinations in Ag. Pelagia and Diakofti, or are in the process of being implemented, such as project replacement of existing water supply networks of about 23 km and the new desalination plants in Kapsali, Avlemonas and Antikythera, will contribute substantially to further minimise water supply problems, especially during the summer period.
The proposals submitted in almost every Call and funding source and the significant funding that have been achieved in recent years, are the result of methodical planning, systematic work and harmonious cooperation between the Technical Department of the Municipality and the Technical Support Department of the Regional Unit of the Attica Islands of Attica and the technical advisors of our Municipality.
