About 70 firefighters are working today, Wednesday (Aug. 17), to put out a fire on a railroad bridge in Southwark, in central London, which led to mandated the suspension of train service in the area and the evacuation of certain buildings, the London Fire Department announced.
Images posted by the fire department on Twitter show smoke coming from the street that runs under the railroad bridge, where there are some vehicles and which is engulfed in flames. The Southwark and London Bridge train stations have been closed.
“There is a lot of smoke from the fire, and it is recommended that those who live or work in the area to keep their windows and doors closed“, said Fire Department Station Commander Wayne Johnson in a statement posted on the fire department’s website.

Trains on the Jubilee Line of the London Underground have also been affected by the fire, while the London Fire Department clarified that The smoke coming from the platform at the London Bridge subway station is coming from the fire on the railway bridge.

The Rail Kent & Sussex rail network announced on Twitter that The fire had spread to a parking lot where “a couple of electric cars were engulfed in flames.”.
