Greek-Australian manavis goes viral because of... accuracy!

The weekly report from Adelaide, South Australia.

The grocer Yannis Kapiris has become the face of the day and in the last few days he has taken on his competitors who, in the name of inflation, are driving up the prices of vegetables.

The main issue is the three vegetables cucumbers, tomatoes and lettuce that at the moment a consumer has to pay a lot to get.

The expat's posts, culminating in the latest video he posted last Sunday, have gone viral.

Yannis Kapiris, for the past 14 years has been running a fruit shop in East Adelaide and although he is not loved by everyone no one disputes the fact that he has known the market well from a young age.

His grandfather, Yannis Kapiris, created the well-known family business when he came as an immigrant in 1950 from Chios to Australia.

According to the Greek-Australian grocer, the rise in vegetable prices is due to the lack of production due to the floods in Queensland and New Wales and the damage to crops.

At the same time, he believes that this situation has become an excuse for everyone to raise prices as an opportunity for temporary enrichment and even reveals that the prices of some products have risen by 20%.

Mr Kapiris even refers to his grandfather and the lessons he learned from him.

«Grandpa taught us from way back to take care of the customer, not the money. The most important thing is that people come to your store. When a store is full, it draws people in because it's the best advertisement.

«If I have ten expensive products, then I put in ten cheap products so there's a balance,» he said, predicting that vegetable prices, which is what is needed, will start to fall in about three weeks when production starts coming back from Queensland, New South Wales and Western Australia.

What happened to a Greek-Australian restaurateur's business?;

The store had been operating in the Marion area for the past 44 years and was operated by expatriate restaurateur Vassilios Lianos before he took over full management 3 years ago.

According to Mr.Lianos, despite the fact that the closure of his business causes nostalgia, it is definitely a step forward since the company is now expanding and it is almost impossible to maintain it as it is.
