The Athens International Film Festival - Premiere Nights announces the official opening of the 12th Athens Open Air Film Festival with the first nationwide screening of the film «The Lost Daughter» by Maggie Gyllenhaal, in the presence of the director, the acclaimed actor Peter Sarsgaard and a number of Greek actors.
The 12th Athens Open Air Film Festival begins its summer cinematic journey, in co-organization with the Organization for Culture, Sports and Youth of the Municipality of Athens (OPANDA) on Tuesday 14 June 2022 (at 21.15) at the Atticus Alyssa Theatre ‘Katina Paxinou«, hosting the national premiere of the film of Maggie Gyllenhaal, nominated for 3 Oscars (A» and B’ Female Role, Adapted Screenplay) and awarded with the Screenplay Award at the Venice Film Festival. Admission for the public is free.
Based on one of the most popular novels by Italian actress Elena Ferrante, The Lost Daughter is a remarkable directorial debut for the American actress. Shot on location in Spetses, the film features an outstanding cast (Olivia Coleman, Peter Sarsgaard, Ed Harris and Dakota Johnson to up-and-comers Jesse Buckley and Paul Meskal) and has already been internationally acclaimed by audiences and critics alike. On the Greek side, the film features Nikos Poursanidis, Panos Koronis, Alexandros Mylonas, Konstantinos Samaa and Spyros Maragoudakis.
In the film, Leda (Olivia Coleman) is enjoying a lonely holiday on Spetses, when she gradually becomes involved with a young mother (Dakota Johnson) and her daughter, whom she meets every day on the same beach. As mother and daughter have a special and intense relationship, Leda is overwhelmed by the memories and mixed feelings of love, confusion and tension of her own early motherhood. A mysterious impulse forces her to confront the unconventional choices she made as a new mother and, more importantly, the consequences of those choices.
The film will be released on June 30th in Greek cinemas by SPENTZOS FILM, while it will premiere on Novacinema channels in the near future.
