6 things that we all have in the house that make us sick without realizing it

Chemicals and germs lurk everywhere, even in the cleanest parts of our homes.

Have you ever thought that your pillow might be making you sick?;

Experts warn us about the health risks of some everyday objects.

It is a well-known fact that we spend about 1/3 of our lives in bed. That is why the bedroom should be a safe environment.

Experts warn, however, that even if you are regular with your cleaning, there are «hidden» dangers lurking that threaten our health. That make us vulnerable during sleep. Such dangers include chemicals and germs.

See where they are likely to be hiding.

Mattress: If the mattress is not made of natural or organic materials, it is likely to contain a mixture of chemicals that act as flame retardants.

These are released into the atmosphere, cling to dust and when inhaled cause headaches, dizziness and possibly more serious symptoms. Dust the room often and open the windows to keep the room well ventilated.

Pillows: A study by the University of Manchester has shown that pillows have a significant number of many species of fungi.

Fungal spores are found in the air, but multiply in warm and moist places. It is important not to sleep with wet hair, especially if you suffer from asthma or sinusitis. It is also important to use washable pillows so that you clean them regularly. Don't forget to air them out and change their covers regularly, at least once a week.

Lamps: Did you know that light bulbs can cause skin damage? A related study published in the British Journal of Dermatology found that compact fluorescent bulbs emit ultraviolet light that can cause skin damage and redness, while flickering lights can cause headaches.

Chemicals that endanger our lives

Phone chargers & electric alarm clocks: Our nervous system runs on very low voltage electricity. Our brain uses electricity to send messages to our muscles.

For some people, the alternating current of houses interferes with this process, causing insomnia. So the charging phone or the electric alarm clock may be the prime suspect for difficulty sleeping.

Radiator body: Dust can cause various health problems, especially when it comes into contact with other compounds.

If you don't clean radiators regularly, a lot of dust collects on the back of them and when they light up and emit hot air, the dust spreads throughout the house.

Carpets: A 2017 study revealed that carpets are associated with increased levels of indoor dust, allergens and microorganisms. All of these increase the risk of asthma and irritation. Make sure you vacuum carpets thoroughly and don't forget smaller items in the home that have lots of germs, such as makeup brushes, cell phones, soft toys, computer keyboards, remote controls and doorknobs.
