Skourolembida: The old carnival dance of the Viaradiki people

From Eleni Charou's blog.

One folk carnival male dance who used to dance with great gusto at the Viaradika of Kythira, was the «mackerel.».

This dance was danced as follows: the men stood in a circle holding a handkerchief, which they passed between their legs. Each dancer held his handkerchief between his legs with one hand and with the other hand he held the handkerchief of the previous dancer. It goes without saying that the dancers danced while bending down. The leader, making comic movements. every now and then he would say «I've lost my moth» and he would say he was looking for it.

This dance spread a lot of fun in the two cafes that used to exist in Viaradika and a very comical guy of the time, Panagiotakis Samios-Dozis, excelled in it.

The information was rescued by Viaros Mr. Kontoleon Dimitrios, retired from the Rural Police, whom I thank warmly.
