It was the... absolute. The woman who marked the most «fancy» decade in the history of Greece - that of the 1980s - and who became the ultimate female symbol during the period of the unrealistic boom of the video cassette.
Who can forget the hopelessly impressive gymnastics teacher of Havalet High School in «Wheel, Bag and Cope» or her inimitable role as «Karolina» in the unabashedly epic adventures of Tamtakos?;
The reason, of course, for the Vina Asiki, the woman who at a very young age acquired a huge fan club, making men talk (and rightly so) every time she appeared on the small screen.
She, of course, had stated about the scenes in which she starred that: «For me, those scenes were an embarrassment. I wasn't interested in selling my c@lk, even if it was nice. What do you want them for? I was told ‘we're serious directors, what do you think we're shooting, t@oada?‘ and that the camera would be off. If you're a dumbass, small and vain, you're screwed.’.
However, as quickly as the goddess Vina «climbed» to the top, she disappeared just as abruptly; one could say that this happened overnight. After starring in more than 35 video films and another 25+ feature films by the age of 25, Asiki... disappeared from the face of film land.
Why did this happen?;
Simply because she married the dancer Orestis Demetriou and decided to take a completely different path in her professional life. Her departure from the limelight was far from voluntary, until she reappeared in the limelight teaching acting and dancing to children in the municipality of Liosia.
Despite the fact that in her youth she had... haunted becoming the ultimate symbol, Vina didn't accept the role so easily, while she didn't seem to regret her choice to give it all up when she was at the height of her glory:
«My inside had nothing to do with my outside. Imagine that I started great relationships. I started at 18 and met my husband at 25. If I hadn't gotten married, I'd be a very big star now, a starlet, and I'd have made a lot of money. But I would have been miserable. Like the very beautiful women of all time that I see,» she had pointed out in an earlier interview.
The absolute Greek goddess of the 80s, well, decided to end her career, plunging her numerous fans into irreversible mourning because she fell in love.
In a sense, this is the most fitting thing that could happen to the woman who made everyone fall in love with her...
