The country's epidemiological picture is worrying, especially in the run-up to Christmas, as more and more areas are entering the «deep red» level of health alert for the spread of coronavirus. The dramatic picture is confirmed by the data published by the EODY.
Specifically, today, Wednesday 8 December, the EODY announced that 81 patients died in a 24-hour period, while the number of intubations remains above 700 and the number of new hospital admissions continues to rise. At the same time, the number of new cases remains in the region of 6,000.
In particular, the EODY announced:
«The new laboratory-confirmed cases of the disease recorded in the last 24 hours are 5,899, of which 7 were detected following checks at the country's entry gates. The total number of cases is 984,301 (daily change +0.6%), of which 50.5% are males. Based on the confirmed cases in the last 7 days, 96 are considered to be associated with travel from abroad and 2,536 are associated with an already known case.
The 𝑅𝑡 for the territory based on cases is estimated at 1.07 (95% DE: 0.99 - 1.21).
There are 81 new deaths of patients with COVID-19, with a total of 18,901 deaths recorded since the start of the epidemic. 95.4% had underlying disease and/or age 70 years or older.
The number of hospitalized intubated patients is 709 (59.9% men). Their median age is 64 years. 79.3% have an underlying disease and/or age 70 years or older. Among intubated patients, 576 (81.24%) are unvaccinated or partially vaccinated and 133 (18.76%) are fully vaccinated. Since the beginning of the pandemic, 3 579 patients have been discharged from ICUs.
The admissions of new Covid-19 patients to hospitals in the territory are 449 (daily change +10.86%). The seven-day average admission rate is 427 patients.
The median age of cases is 38 years (range 0.2 to 106 years), while the median age of deaths is 78 years (range 0.2 to 106 years).»
