Maria Sakkari celebrated the biggest victory of her career so far, and with incredible ease. Against last year's finalist Sophia Kenin, the Greek tennis player was absolutely dominant and needed just 68 minutes to win 6-1, 6-3 and advance to the quarter-finals of Roland Garros. It is Sakkari's first victory in a grand slam tournament over a top-10 world ranked opponent (the American is ranked No. 5) and the first time she has advanced to the «8» of a grand slam.
Coming from the big battle of the 3rd round against Elise Mertens, the Greek champion was prepared for another very difficult match. But unlike her, who was very determined and focused, Kennin... didn't show up on the court. With nine double faults on serve, a total of 31 unforced errors (against 15) and very bad choices on most points, the American became easy prey in the hands of Sakkari.
Our champion will have to wait until late in the evening to find out her opponent in the quarter-finals, which will result from the match between the Polish title holder Iga Sviatek and the Ukrainian Marta Kostyuk.
