Robert Leffingwell is the president’s nominee for secretary of state. First, he must be approved by a Senate committee led by the idealistic Senator Brig Anderson. While Anderson uncovers a great deal of dirt on the nominee, the latter proves his innocence and is confirmed. The matter, however, does not end there, as the young senator receives threats and has gathered evidence proving that Leffingwell lied under oath.
