Manolis Daponte, 98 years old at the time of the interview, is the last Eponite from Chora Kythera. There he participated in the last battle with the Germans, which lasted four days until they left badly and Kythera became the first free Greek territory on September 4, 1944. Moreover, he is the man who created the Kythera Nautical Club, teaching swimming to children, and the Water Ski School, with which he brought firsts and medals to Kythera, making it known throughout Greece. He also wanted to put an end to the suffering of the passengers who came with the boats from the ship and built the first port of the island under difficult conditions.
