Sifnos as an authentic Greek destination, where gastronomy is directly linked to local tradition, culture, and the modern travel experience.
According to a related announcement by the Greek National Tourism Organization (GNTO), the feature is the result of a recent familiarization trip (fam trip) to Sifnos by the internationally renowned Australian chef Shannon Bennett and his Culinary Wonderland team, organized by the Greek National Tourism Organization (GNTO) in Australia in collaboration with the Municipality of Sifnos and local organizations.
During the visit, participants had the opportunity to experience firsthand the culinary traditions and contemporary cuisine of Sifnos, its local products, its distinctive flavors, as well as aspects of daily life and the island’s cultural identity.
The outcome of the visit was documented in the «Sifnos Guide» by Culinary Wonderland, authored by S. Bennett, who showcases the Cycladic island to an international audience with a particular interest in gastronomy, culture, and experiential travel.
Sifnos boasts a rich and highly distinctive culinary tradition, which is an integral part of its identity; perhaps its most iconic representative is the legendary head chef (chef) Nikos Tselementes. The connection between the local cuisine and the island’s produce, the traditions, and the way of life of the residents creates an authentic tourist product that enriches the visitor’s experience and enhances the island’s profile beyond the traditional model «sun and sea.».
It should be noted that this initiative is part of efforts to promote Greek tourism through international media and familiarization trips, with the goal of highlighting themed forms of tourism and authentic experiences that can serve as a compelling reason in themselves to choose Greece as a travel destination.
