The Municipality of Kythera announces that in view of the start of the fire season, citizens are informed of the following:
According to Fire Decree No 20/2023 (Government Gazette 2549/B’/19-04-2023) and based on the provisions of Article 75 of Law 3463/2006, Article 94 of Law 3852/2010 - as amended and in force, oowners, owners and usufructuaries of the following areas: a) land and other uncovered areas located in areas within approved urban development plans and within the boundaries of settlements without an approved urban development plan, b) areas located within a radius of one hundred metres (100 m.), from the boundaries of the aforementioned areas, c) land with a building outside the plan, have the obligation to clean them from 1 to 30 April 2023, as well as the obligation to maintain them throughout the fire season, from 1 May to 31 October, to prevent the risk of fire or its rapid extension.
According to the article 266 of Law 5037/2023 (OFFICIAL GAZETTE 78/B’/28-03-2023) “...The municipality, throughout the fire season, ensures that an autopsy is carried out. If the parties responsible for cleaning up do not comply, the municipality shall impose ADDED fifty (50) cents of the euro per square meter, with a minimum of two hundred (200) euros...In each case of spontaneous cleaning, charged entirely to the liable parties, by the municipality concerned, the cost of cleaning the site and removal of materials... ”.
The cleaning of these sites must be completed by 30/04/2023.
In the areas referred to in Article 1 and in accordance with Article 12 of Fire Decree No. 9/2021 “Determination of measures for the prevention and avoidance of fires in forest, rural areas and land” (Government Gazette 1923/B’/13-05-2021), the lighting of fires, the disposal of lit cigarettes, matches and other materials is prohibited from 1 May to 31 October each year.
