In a momentous moment for pizza lovers, the French chef Benoit Bruel of the restaurant Deliss is now the owner of the new Guinness World Record for the most varieties of cheese on a pizza.
Last week, Guinness World Records announced that the pizzaiolo based in Lyon broke the previous record with the pizza A 30-cm-long one made with 254 different kinds of cheese.
The controversy stemmed from a video posted by a French travel and food YouTuber, FlorianOnAir in February, which documents the process of creating Bruel’s innovative pizza. In the video, Bruel notes that he had to break the previous record set by an Australian for a pizza with 154 types of cheese.
He even argued that the title should go to France, a country known for its love of cheese. After carefully sampling and weighing each portion of cheese for two hours, Bruel was able to assemble his creation, for which he used 680 grams of cheese.
The 254-cheese pizza cost $1,000 and is not on Deliss's menu. But a few lucky customers were able to enjoy this luxurious culinary experience by paying about $60 per slice.
