LIVE: Mitsotakis’s Speech at the 90th Thessaloniki International Trade Fair: €400 allowance for retirees, zero tax for farmers on income up to €20,000

«The tragic incident in Tanagra also casts a shadow over our event today. Grief is widespread, and our thoughts are with the families of the two pilots—a testament to the daily risks taken by the Greek Icaruses as they remain on standby at all times. »The State will stand by their relatives, and especially by the two minor children they leave behind,” said Kyriakos Mitsotakis as he took the stage at the 90th Thessaloniki International Trade Fair.

The prime minister noted that this is his eighth time attending the Thessaloniki International Fair as prime minister. «With a clear picture of the challenges facing our nation. More experienced. I speak to you frankly, feeling more optimistic, ready, and determined than ever,» he continued.

«It is time for our country to reap the fruits of its efforts. The strong foundations we have laid allow us to build the Greece of 2030. The horizon ahead of us is opening up. We have the right plan to achieve it. I will outline a comprehensive national vision, with specific and costed initiatives, spread over a four-year timeline. This is the Roadmap for 2027, the preface to the new program. »A path toward 2031, toward a leap forward in prosperity for citizens everywhere—from urban centers to the most remote village and the smallest island,” he added.

«The benefits of growth should be returned to society as a dividend, without ever jeopardizing fiscal stability. A policy for the many. What I am about to announce is the essence of discussions I’ve had with citizens throughout Greece. I felt their anxiety about the cost of living. Their hope that the economy’s success will be reflected in their own wallets. The country’s strength must become the strength of every citizen. I also heard about real problems of mismanagement and administrative failure. »The battle against the deep state may have yielded victories, but it has not succeeded in achieving a definitive victory,” he emphasized.

This year, we are focusing on the most dynamic segments of society and on society as a whole at the same time—the annual pension supplement is being extended to everyone over the age of 65, amounting to 400 euros net

«During our meetings with citizens, it was clear that everyone today feels safer and more confident in the strength of our country. They see that the threats around them remain,» said Kyriakos Mitsotakis.

«Domestic political stability is of paramount importance. As I traveled throughout Greece, I saw the twofold need for the country to converge more quickly with Europe. Growth must benefit everyone and be equitable. The new policies aim to ensure that economic progress is reflected in the daily lives of every citizen and that national growth is felt in every household’s budget. »All Greeks should feel that their footing is steady in an unstable world. We are living through an unprecedented period of transition,” the prime minister continued.

«This year, we are focusing on the most dynamic segments of society and on society as a whole at the same time. To the self-employed, small and medium-sized businesses, retirees, public sector employees, farmers, and private-sector wage earners, families, those with three children, large families, and renters,» he emphasized.

Mr. Mitsotakis specifically mentioned the measures concerning self-employed professionals and small and medium-sized enterprises.

«The first topic of discussion was how to support professional farmers. I took note of their concerns. By eliminating the tax on professional farmers for income up to 20,000 euros,’ he continued, citing specific examples.

Regarding livestock farmers, Mr. Mitsotakis announced that we will soon have a comprehensive framework for the full recovery of the livestock sector that will permanently protect them from disease. «I am committed to ensuring that the herds that were lost will be rebuilt as soon as possible,» he emphasized.

For retirees, he announced that the annual November supplement is being expanded to include everyone over the age of 65, at a net amount of 400 euros. 2.2 million beneficiaries will see their payments increase by approximately the amount of a national pension, while the reduction in widow’s pensions has been eliminated in the meantime.
