The Press Office of the Ministry of Environment and Energy issued the following statement:
«With the impressive percentage 93,4%, Municipalities all over the country said «YES» to electromobility, sending the message that this new green mode of transport has potential and a future.
In particular, 252 Municipalities -out of a total of 270 covered by the Green Fund call- were present, submitting a proposal for an expression of interest for the preparation of Electric Vehicle Charging Plans (EV Charging Plans) in 2021. With these proposals, the large and medium-sized continental and island municipalities, as well as the capitals of regional units, claim in 2021 an amount of funding from the Green Fund, totalling EUR 11,5 million and concerns the creation 10.291 electric vehicle charging points across the country.
A new call will follow in the second half of 2021, in order to the smaller municipalities -who, based on the relevant Ministerial Decision, have the obligation to prepare an SFIO in 2022- to claim the relevant financial instrument.»
The Minister of Environment and Energy, Kostis Hatzidakis, stated:
«It is very encouraging to see the universal demand of municipalities to enter the era of electrification. It gives us the initial signal that there is a will to bring green mobility into the lives of citizens... We, for our part, from the Ministry of Environment and Energy, we are methodically implementing our plan for the development of electromobility. The first step was the establishment of the necessary regulatory framework with the Electrification Act, which was combined with the «Moving Electric» which subsidises the purchase of electric cars, bicycles and scooters and has been embraced by citizens, especially young people. The next step is to develop the necessary charging infrastructure across the country, for which we have requested €400 million of funding from the Recovery Fund. With this invitation of the Green Fund to medium and large municipalities for the location of the charging stations and the next one that will follow for smaller ones, we are taking an important step so that electromobility enters the neighborhoods, in the everyday life of the citizen.»
