For one special night, on Wednesday, April 6, at 9:00 p.m., the Train at Rouf will be transformed into a casa de fado!
Greek fado singer Kalliopi Raouzaiou, founder of the Fado Rebetiko Project, travels from France and boards the Orient Express Music Car to take us on a journey into «saudade» —that is, a deeply emotional world where anticipation, nostalgia, pain, sorrow, joy, happiness, and love coexist.
Singer, pianist, and composer Kalliroi Raouzaiou has performed with her quartet at festivals and theaters throughout France, has collaborated with prominent artists and musical ensembles, has won an award at Musiques d’Ici et d’Ailleurs, and has recorded two albums featuring original compositions and arrangements of fado and rebetiko songs.
Accompanied by a musician, she sings and plays the piano, performing original compositions from her latest album as well as covers of Portuguese blues songs.
Kalliroi Rauzaiou is a singer, musician, and composer who lives and works in France. She attended the Pallini Music High School, studied piano and harmony at the National Conservatory, studied musicology at the Ionian University as well as acting at the G. Theodosiadis Theater of Athens. From a young age, alongside her studies, she established herself as a singer-pianist with a broad and refined repertoire. In Corfu, she collaborated with the Ionian Theater, the Free Improvisation Ensemble, the Corfu Conservatory, the Corfu Stage, and the University Jazz Ensemble, with which she presented her graduation concert, “French Songs of the Interwar Period.”.
In Athens, she has collaborated with many artists and has performed at the Megaron Concert Hall (ERT Choir), ’Tea in the Sahara,’ the National Conservatory, the French Institute, ’Little Paris of Athens,’ Aliko, and many other venues. Her encounter with the floating theater troupe La Nef des Fous marked a turning point in her life and led to her settling in Southern France. For four consecutive years, she composed the music and performed in the shows of the large-scale burlesque ship-theater L’Eloge de la Folie d’Erasmus, *Sindbad le Marin*, *Cabarets des Fous*, and others. Inspired by the multicultural city of Marseille, she learned to sing fado and created the Fado Rebetiko Project to interpret the “Blues of the Mediterranean.” With her quartet, she has performed at festivals and theaters throughout France; she has won an award at Musiques d’ Ici et d’Ailleurs, and has recorded two albums featuring original compositions and arrangements of fado and rebetiko songs.
In France, she has collaborated as a singer, pianist, and composer with prominent artists and ensembles: the Les Dames de la Joliette quintet, the AnouSkan dance troupe, translator Michel Volokovitch, the Maison du Chant, the Compagnie Rassegna, the Théâtre des Calanques, Fred Pichot, Cédrick Bec, and others. Her most recent compositional work, the album *Topographia* featuring the experimental jazz group Zoppa, which she created with Spanish musician Sylvie Paz, will be released in the spring of 2022 by Socadisc.
