«Greece - France - Alliance»: warm meeting between Mitsotakis and Macron at the Maximou Mansion

With clear messages of solidarity and confirmation of the deepening of Greek-French strategic cooperation, the meeting between Greek Prime Minister, Kyriakos Mitsotakis, and French President Emmanuel Macron at the Maximos Mansion.

The reception was warm, with the two leaders exchanging remarks that reaffirmed the close, historic ties between the two countries, as well as their commitment to expanding their cooperation into new, critical areas.

Mitsotakis: «Your remarks touched the hearts of the Greek people»

In welcoming the French President, Kyriakos Mitsotakis was sure to mention Mr. Macron’s visit and speech yesterday at the Presidential Palace. The Greek Prime Minister expressed his gratitude on behalf of the Greek people, noting that Mr. Macron’s words «truly touched the hearts of all my fellow citizens.».

Mr. Mitsotakis emphasized that the long-standing bonds of friendship between Greece and France are so strong that they often «go beyond the agreements we sign.» Concluding his opening remarks, the Prime Minister recalled the historic saying «Greece–France, Alliance,» emphasizing that this is a principle upon which both sides will continue to work and build.

Macron: «You can count on us»

For his part, Emmanuel Macron, accompanied by a large delegation of ministers, expressed his joy and pride at being in Athens. The French President set the tone for the future of bilateral relations, speaking of transforming the friendship between the two countries into a «new, broad, global, and strategic partnership,» particularly after 2021.

«Greece is at the forefront when it comes to some of the most significant challenges facing Europeans,» Mr. Macron noted, announcing that bilateral cooperation would not be limited solely to defense and security. As he mentioned, agreements covering areas such as energy, the economy, culture, and innovation are on the table for signing.

The French President concluded his opening remarks by offering a clear assurance to the Greek side: «With my words yesterday, I expressed a genuine commitment on the part of France. You can count on us.».
