In a joint press release, the opposition forces in the Municipality of Kythira are calling for an immediate meeting of the Municipal Council to address Kythira’s water supply problems. Read below:

SUBJECT: Immediate Municipal Council Meeting on the Water Supply Problems in Kythira.
There have been strong complaints from residents and vacationers about prolonged water outages or low water pressure in the system. The water supply issue has now become the island’s primary problem. We would like to remind you that we have repeatedly pointed out shortcomings in the efforts to address this problem.
By way of example, we note the water supply problems in Potamos, Logothetianika, Frilingianika, Agia Pelagia, Kypriotianika, etc. Another characteristic of this amateurish design is that the desalination plant in Agia Pelagia is still not connected to the central reservoir…
The opposition has requested that the Mayor brief the City Council on the current situation regarding the water supply network. However, for the umpteenth time, there has been no response. Apparently, the mayor does not feel the need to apologize for anything, since he is doing everything right…
We request that the Municipal Authority (through the Technical Department) conduct inspections of the water supply network and submit a report to us, which will reveal how much water is lost from the network and whether there are any violations resulting in the illegal supply of water to properties. We would like to remind you that Deputy Mayor Kominos has officially stated that the percentage of water that is «lost or stolen» amounts to 40%.
And now, for yet another year (even before August has begun!) we are moved by our heroic compatriots who work day and night to make up for the chronic indifference and incompetence of the unaccountable elected officials.
We call for the issue of water supply problems to be included on the agenda of the next Board of Directors meeting and, after the end of the tourist season, at a special Board of Directors meeting, in order to calmly and comprehensively chart a course toward definitive resolve the problem
Water is not a luxury; it is a basic necessity for citizens.
