«Free Kythira»: complaint against the Home Affairs Commission

The faction “Free Kythera”, with Press Release (14/03/2025), is seeking re-election Evangelos Venardos in the presidency of the Commission for the Domestic Property of Kythera & Antikythera, describing it as a «blow to the country». At the same time, it refers to the Study Wire, which brings to light issues public land management, and shall file statement of claim to investigate possible liability.

The communication also touches on political implications, with references to decisions of the Municipality and the EEPKA, while there is talk of works contracts and arbitrary interventions.

It should be noted that to date, Friday afternoon 14 March, there has been no other public statement on the matter, nor by the Mayor of Kythera Efstratios Harhalakis, nor by any other faction, municipal ή Local consultant.

Free Kythira believe that the re-election of Mr.Venardos as president of the EEPKA was the symbolically most cowardly blow that the administration of Harhalakis has dealt to our country. Symbolically, because it is less about mismanagement, incompetence, inefficiency, inefficiency, inefficiency, expediency, sacrilege, rudeness (all these foreign «virtues» responsible for the spiritual and population shrinkage of Kythera) and more about projecting them as normality, by placing a miserable fellow human being in a key post that requires exactly the opposite qualities: Transparency, intelligence, selflessness, knowledge, respect, courtesy.

We recall that the election of Venardos was done with the «factional» discipline of the elected officials of the opposition (with 3 promising exceptions) despite the public disclosure of illegal projects and assignments during his 1st term. We did not take legal action at the time, we felt it was our own community that should provide the solution. Sadly few paid attention to the arrogance of the arrogance of the thespians during the elections in Enoch when the ugliness that very shortly afterwards left an indelible mark on our land was announced.

The island is no longer the same, and neither are we. And now the grace period has passed without you realizing that it was your last chance. Consumed by your role («agents» in empty Kythera, pre-modern caricatures with their own ... throne!), lost in the worship of your image, you still think that the world's patience is weakness. As, for example, you celebrate that you «got it» with the disobedient villagers of the Karava community. Safely, from far away, from freezing Brussels and with the expense of travelling from petrol stations to Molae, you found -always found- a local sucker to ruin his life for you.

Things have changed. It is no longer enough for the mayor to say «I sent Venardo to the prosecutor» to pass on to others the heavy responsibility for the systematic and methodical devaluation of the Enchorios. Because there is more to come, more serious, much more serious. We are far from naïve not to see what lies behind the marble slabs, the shacks and the tacky aesthetics. You don't go to much trouble to hide it of course, and just the choice of your specialist partners groans in the reeds. You keep quiet lest we forget what we've been asking for two years now. But - because of you - we have crossed the Rubicon and we will not remain inactive until the five years have passed. For the benefit of all: change your attitude!

On the contrary, the sooner reason prevails and everyone is held accountable, the less traumatised our society will be and the sooner it will heal.
With the above understanding of the situation on the island and the responsibilities of everyone, our party has collectively decided and announces:

1. We accept the opinion of Mr.Magoulas and Mr.Souris that the Syralis Study raises a matter of protection of the Public Interest (so that its disclosure to Mr.Venardos was legally permissible - but then of course to everyone). In order to inform citizens more fully and to facilitate their assistance in solving the case, we publish the Syralis Study - with the parts containing personal data hidden.

2. We consider the mayor's forwarding of the Syralis Study to the EEPKA and the Prosecutor of First Instance an expected move of not taking responsibility and equal distances - in any case inadequate for the seriousness of the matter.

3. Considering, with the help of our legal advisors:

3.1. The overall Photogrammetric Interpretation Study of Syrmalis, and from it especially: a) the sequence of aerial photographs which chronologically depicts an impressive land reclamation in an area with no previous traces of human intervention, b) the appearance from scratch and gradual enlargement of a property from 10 to 60 acres and c) the construction of private arbitrary buildings on allegedly public land.

3.2. Our own research with data collection, discussions with residents of the area and the final opinion of our engineering partners who assess the claims of Mr.Syrmalis as valid.

3.3. The possibility of correlation of the case with the recent election of Mr.Souris as president of the Karavas PP in unjustified, democratically incomprehensible opposition to the expressed will of its inhabitants.

3.4. The immediate reactions (announcements) of the elected officials and especially of Mr.Souris and Mr.Venardos after the notification of the Syralis Study.

3.5. Our lack of confidence in the ability of the EESC's administration to self-cleanse (especially after the latest public statements of the President) if this is deemed necessary.

We have filed a complaint against all responsible persons, co-participants or instigators for the investigation of possible felony fraud and abuse of power committed by elected officials of the «Commission of the Domestic Property of Kythera and Antikythera» and any third parties, regarding land of the Domestic Property of Kythera and Antikythera Island and protected forests of the region.
