A statement was made by the chairman of the Kythera and Antikythera Property Company, Evangelos Venardos, «breaking the silence» he had maintained after the tragic event of 18 December 2024, which shocked the society of Kythera. The statement follows:
Kytherians and Kytherians,
Remaining silent for a long time, fully respecting the heavy mourning of the family of the late Cosmas Tzortopoulos, with whom I have always been connected by excellent family relations of decades, I must now state the following about this tragic event:
1. My grief is genuine and not a pretence, obsessed with the uncritical instrumentalisation of this tragedy. My condolences are self-evident and sincere.
2. The fanciful scenarios and fictions that were hastily circulated, mostly by people with zero knowledge of the actual facts, contradict each other, collapse and become wings in the wind. Expressing an opinion without knowledge of the facts is abusive to society and sometimes damaging to the person expressing it. These are the opinions that create toxicity and must be stopped.
3. The great power of truth will be revealed. It requires time, silence, perseverance and patience. But so it must. For everyone and everything. With names and proof. I am committed to this to the END. I owe it personally to the memory of Cosmas alone. I wonder why the nervousness, anxiety and worry of someone or some who are not rushing ahead of nothing to serve their own selfish ends.
4. I stated from the first moment in the hospital and the next day in an interview that I do NOT HOLD THE WORLD RESPONSIBLE FOR WHAT IT HAD DONE BUT FOR THOSE WHO HAD DONE IT (the perpetrators of the act). They will be exposed no matter how hard they try to the contrary. They are very right to be afraid. Everyone and everything will be exposed.
5. I do not retaliate hatred, envy, revenge, vulgarity, vulgarity, misery, man-eating, nor a return to the Middle Ages and the popular courts, but I remain a supporter of the Law, only in the place where it is administered, that is, in the courtroom. I will not become an epic and an underminer of unity, as is being cultivated behind the scenes, for other well-known reasons.
6. I will remain the Guardian of the rights of Enchorion, of the Public Property (land registry, stones, porolith, beaches, salt pans, caves, etc.) of Panagia Myrtidiotissa and Agia Moni, supporting institutionally as always the Laws and Judicial decisions, In accordance with the mandate of the 85% of the electoral body, despite the fierce attack of a group of individuals (more than 3) who organized, structured, structured, constantly and methodically with illegitimate methods (violence, slander, threats, lies, blackmail, etc.) trying to force the entire D.Board to resign for reasons we are well aware of.
