Court of Justice of Los Angeles rejected the request of Britney Spears for the the exclusion of her father from her legal custody, which she has been under since 2008 after suffering psychological problems and giving him control of her affairs, the US media reported.
The court's ruling responds to a lawsuit filed in September by Brittney Spears' attorney, who requested that the Bessemer Trust asset management company be added to the guardianship order and that her father Jamie Spears be disqualified, CNN reports.
“The motion to disqualify James P. Spears immediately following the appointment of Bessemer Trust Company of California as sole trustee is denied,” Judge Brenda Penny said, according to the trial transcript, CNN reported.
The ruling comes a week after the singer filed a statement in which she asked for an end to her guardianship order, claiming that forced her to take medication to control her behavior, that she is not allowed to make decisions about her friendships or financial affairs, that she is not allowed to remove a contraceptive IUD when she wants to have more children.
The Los Angeles court's decision did not take into account Brittney Spears' testimony last week.
According to CNN, her father asked the court to investigate the star's allegations that she was forced to take lithium and that she was forced to sing against her will.
Stating that she is depressed and suffering from trauma, the 39-year-old singer asked the court on 23 June to remove her guardianship status. «I want to get my life back, this has been going on for thirteen years and that's enough,» Brittney Spears said during her testimony via teleconference.
