The two doctors are in jail for the death of Giorgos Mazonakis

The two doctors are being sent to prison following their lengthy testimony regarding the death of Giorgos Mazonakis inside his private medical office on Karneadou Street last Wednesday, September 9September.
Following the marathon hearing—which lasted 17 hours—before the 32nd Regular Investigating Judge, the two defendants were, with the consent of the Investigating Judge and the Prosecutor, remanded in custody on charges of intentional homicide with possible malice by omission.

In response to the serious charge leveled against them—that they foresaw that their actions, and especially their omissions, could have fatal consequences for the artist and accepted this— the couple maintained a stance of denial before the investigating judge.

The defendants appear to be arguing that the responsibility lies with EKAΒ, which arrived at their clinic without a stretcher but with a chair.

Thus, according to their account, the CPR was interrupted during the transfer from the first floor to the ambulance, and the artist lost any chance of recovery.

The doctors told the court official that the two confiscated hemodialysis machines are completely legal, with purchase invoices and registered with the Athens Medical Association in 2025 and 2026, along with supporting photographs.
Regarding the evidence in the case file stating that, during the medical procedure on the deceased, the machine’s alarms went off, the defendant maintains that these were simply due to minor vascular tears that occur when the intravenous catheter is removed.
The defendant reportedly told the court official that she routinely took photographs of her patients and thus took a photograph of Mazonakis during the proceedings, a photograph she sent to a third party, whose name she disclosed to the court official.

For his part, the doctor reportedly said that Mazonakis was not his patient and that he was not in the office when the artist arrived. As he explained, when he was informed that there were complications in the adjacent room where Giorgos Mazonakis was being treated, he immediately rushed to assist, even though he was seeing another patient at the time.

This patient testified yesterday, Monday, before the investigating judge as a witness for the doctor's defense.

The hearing began yesterday around 1:00 p.m. and concluded with the announcement of the decision by the investigating judge and the prosecutor shortly before 7:00 a.m.
