As part of the program of events «After the Ashes—Art, Memory, and Rebirth in the Burned Landscapes of Kythira» two special evenings They aim to highlight the way in which art, the body, and the community can serve as means of healing the collective consciousness in the face of the scarred landscape left behind by the fires of July 2025.
Saturday, August 22, and Sunday, August 23, 2026, the audience will have the opportunity to experience an immersive exploration of fire as an event of remembrance and, at the same time, of transformation. At the heart of this event, beginning with the screening of a video dance followed by a live performance, it highlights the need to recognize the significance of a place in the aftermath of a disaster and to mobilize the community to participate in the process of recovery and regeneration.

«After the Ashes: A Ritual for the Scorched Earth»
Outdoor video projection on the exterior wall of the English School in Mylopotamos.
Against the scorched landscape of Kythira, the bodies of the four dancers become vessels of memory and the voices of nature. They do not merely document the destruction; trigger a wake-up process for the viewer, reminding them of humanity’s deep, enduring connection to the earth.
The body becomes a message; movement becomes a voice. Contact with the earth, the burnt branches, the traces of fire, and the first signs of nature that have just begun to sprout highlight the cycle of destruction and rebirth. His improvised music Thodoris Ziarka (double bass and lyre) functions as a dialogue with bodies and the environment—a conversation between the memory of the earth and the human pulse.

After the video presentation ends, it is followed by the performance inside the historic English school in Kato Chora, Mylopotamos.
The performance «After the ashes: Sensory Traces» is a a ceremony dedicated to the scorched earth, a land that remembers and strives to rise from its ashes. A ceremony that brings together all those who were affected and stood up to the flames, in a spirit of collective memory and ritual redemption. The community comes together and remembers: through this gathering, it draws the strength to stand once again alongside nature, allowing the earth to be reborn.
The body appears as a vehicle for memory, experience, and transformation—a body that remembers, listens, and transforms. Where the fire has left only ashes, the body regains its breath and becomes the vessel of a new presence—fragile yet resolute.
