Pressure from the Largest Minority Party on the Municipal Authority Regarding the «Sewer System for the Southern Part of the Island of Kythira» Project»
The Largest Minority Faction of the Municipality of Kythira expresses its satisfaction with the decision of the Municipal Committee (Decision No. 022/2025) to proceed with the issuance of a Special Invitation to the contractor «CHOROTECHNIKI A.T.E.,» following the continuous and intense pressure we exerted on the Municipal Authority.
During the most recent City Council meeting, on March 4, 2025, the Largest Minority raised the serious issue of delays in the implementation of the «Sewer System for the Southern Part of the Island of Kythira» project. We pointed out that, despite repeated reminders from the Technical Department to the contractor, the project continued to face serious delays, a situation that jeopardized its funding and smooth completion.
The pressure exerted by the Largest Minority proved decisive, as the Municipal Authority was forced to take action by issuing a Special Invitation to the contractor. According to the decision, the company is required to carry out the following work within thirty (30) days:
- Completion of earthwork at the wastewater treatment plant.
- Completion of an additional 2,000 meters of sewer system.
- Completion of excavation work on the sewage manhole at the «Amaxostasio» site and commencement of concrete pouring work.
The Special Summons was assigned to Ms. Kyriaki Daningeli, a court officer at the Athens Court of Appeals, at a cost of 70.00 euros (including VAT), which will be charged to the municipality’s budget.
The Largest Minority states that it will continue to exert pressure and closely monitor the project’s progress, with the aim of ensuring its timely completion and transparency in all procedures. The implementation of this project is vital for public health, environmental protection, and improving the quality of life for the residents of Kythira.
