An open invitation to all citizens, businesses and institutions of Kythera is addressed by the Municipal Party «All Together, Kythera - Antikythera», in view of the European Commission's crucial public consultation on the shape of the new «EU Strategy for Islands».
The Commission's initiative aims to create a coherent framework that will allow better coordination of European policies, financial instruments and national interventions, in order to respond effectively to the specific and increased needs of island regions.
The intervention of the group and the critical issues
As stated in the relevant press release, the faction «All Together, Kythira - Antikythera» has already filed a documented intervention in the process. In its intervention it highlighted the most critical issues facing Kythera, including:
- The energy burden.
- The transport isolation (enclavement).
- Water scarcity.
- Population shrinkage.
- The urgent need to strengthen basic infrastructure.
Call for collective action
Despite its own active participation, the party stresses that «the voice of the island must be collective». For this reason, it calls on every citizen of Kythera to use this opportunity to submit their own proposals and comments to ensure that the real needs of the island communities are taken seriously in the European dialogue.
