The MP A’ Piraeus & Islands Thodoris Dritsas filed a petition to the Ministry of Health, forwarding a letter of four Kytheraic associations and institutions dated 04/02/2026. The letter is co-signed by the Kytheraic Brotherhood of Piraeus - Athens, the Kytheraic Association of Athens, the Kytheraic Studies Society and the Kytheraic Foundation for Culture & Development.
The text reflects the strong concern of their members, as well as the Kytherians who reside both on the island and in the Attica basin, for the serious problems of the General Hospital - Health Centre of Kythera «Trifyllion», which are mainly attributed to understaffing.
As noted, the hospital currently operates with four clinicians (General Medicine, Cardiology, General Surgery and Pediatrics), has a laboratory department of Microbiology, while the position of Gynecology remains vacant due to the long leave of the current doctor. At the same time, the Surgeon is expected to leave by next May and the Cardiologist in December, which exacerbates the already marginal situation.
Particular reference is made to the under-utilisation of the laboratory clinics - mainly the Radiology and Microbiology departments - due to the lack of paramedical staff.
The unions call for the immediate intervention of the Ministry of Health, so that in the next calls to ensure the full staffing of the General Hospital-K.Y. Kythera with the necessary medical and paramedical staff, covering both existing and upcoming gaps.
