After the devastating fire of July 2025, which irreparably damaged the natural environment of Mylopotamos, Kythira, the Action Committee for the Revival of Mylopotamos (EDAM). Its purpose is to coordinate the actions of organizations and citizens with the aim of restoring nature and highlighting the region's hidden environmental and spatial treasures.
The founding declaration of August 19, 2025, is signed by elected representatives and bodies of Mylopotamos, including municipal councilors Georgios Stratigos and Nikolaos Magoulas, Community President Evgenia Karydi, and Public Works Association President Panagiotis Stratigos. EDAM works closely with SKEM, which will be the legal entity managing the actions.
The first public meeting will take place on Saturday, September 13, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at the Platanos café-restaurant« in the central square of Mylopotamos, where immediate actions and priorities will be determined.
The initiative emphasizes that its action will be prospective rather than retrospective, with the sole purpose of regenerating the area, under the guidance of the competent authorities and scientific bodies (Forestry Service, Municipality, OFYKEPA, Hellenic Society for the Protection of Nature, etc.).
