President Isaac Herzog yesterday described Iran's direct, unprecedented attack on Israel on Saturday night as a «declaration of war» and claimed that his country was protecting Europe from the Iranian «evil empire» in an interview with the British television network Sky News.
«We are protecting Europe from this empire of evil and it is time to make that clear,» he said. «It is time for the world to confront this empire of evil in Tehran and make it clear to the Iranian regime that this cannot go on, that this is unacceptable,» he insisted.
He also spoke out against the Iranian-backed Houthi rebels in Yemen for increasing the cost of living around the world by launching attacks on ships in the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden, and he referred to Iranian assistance to the Russian armed forces in the war in Ukraine, where Iranian-designed drones are being used.
