«I understand the desire for a strong headline, but the essence of the discussion should not be misinterpreted,» noted Deputy Minister of the Interior, Stelios Petsas, on social media, commenting on the headline «Elections Are Approaching—It’s Time to Reach Out to Citizens» on the ERT website, regarding the interview he gave on a morning show on the state-run channel.
«The elections will take place, as the Prime Minister has always said, in 2023 at a time of his choosing,» Mr. Petsas added on his Twitter account.
«When election time comes, the people have their say. So this is a good opportunity for all of us to take stock of what we’ve done in the period since the last election up to now. Citizens can see whether we have been consistent in our commitments. What is the agenda for the days ahead? ‘So it’s really wonderful. This is democracy. It’s wonderful that people can express themselves and that this exchange of ideas takes place,» Mr. Petsas said on the ERT 1 program «Connections.».
The Deputy Minister of the Interior added: «2023 is just around the corner. And we’ve always said from the start that elections will be held in 2023, which is fast approaching. I can’t specify the possible dates myself. If you look at it that way and open the calendar, you’ll find plenty of Sundays. That’s not the point. The key point is what the prime minister said: that they will take place in the spring. We’re getting close, therefore, so that—as I said before—we can start reaching out to citizens about what we’ve done and what we’ll do next.».
