The Editors« Union also stresses that not only has no progress been made in the police investigation, but "a whole year later not only remain elusive the killers of George Karaiwaz but we do not have the slightest information on whether there is even progress in the investigations».

Saturday, April 9, 2022, marks one year since the brutal and cowardly murder of our colleague George Karaiwaz, without, unfortunately, any progress in solving the crime, which is imperative, not only to ensure justice in the criminal aspect of the case, but also to instill a sense of security among Greek journalists.
The clarification of the murder of George Karaiwaz is a matter of the highest priority for the HESIEA and for this reason we have addressed the political leadership of the Ministry of Citizen Protection on several occasions, both verbally and in writing, asking for the intensification of investigations in order to achieve immediate and tangible results. A whole year later, not only are the killers of George Karaiwaz still at large, but we have not the slightest information on whether there is even any progress in the investigations.
This is a case that has generated international interest and that interest has not waned. International journalists' organisations, as well as the European and International Federations, frequently ask us questions about the development of the case. It appears in all reports on freedom of the press in Greece as an indicator of a threat to the safety of journalists. ESIEA does not forget nor will it allow the murder of our colleague to be forgotten.
A delegation of the Board of Directors of the HESIEA will be present on Saturday, 9 April, at the meeting of the Board of Directors of the HESIEA at Th. Anninou in Alimos, at 14.20, at the time of the murder of George Karaiwaz, expressing once again its full support to the family of the brutally murdered colleague.
